Well。 Huh。I hate to say it, but did I enjoy reading this more than Pride and Prejudice?I'm not sure, but I am sure that this was a really enjoyable read。Not sure what I can say that hasn't already been said but wow。 This was really good。5。 Well。 Huh。I hate to say it, but did I enjoy reading this more than Pride and Prejudice?I'm not sure, but I am sure that this was a really enjoyable read。Not sure what I can say that hasn't already been said but wow。 This was really good。5。 。。。more

I tried。 I really, really did。 Probably longer than I should have。 But I just。。。 Couldn't。The long-winded prose was expected - this is a classic after all。 One expects a certain amount of unnecessary details and breaks in the story。 I could also forgive the ever-changing character or our protagonist, who switches from meek and malleable to fierce and self-assured。 Not my favorite, but I could overlook it。 The Big Dark Secret had already been spoiled for me, but even this wasn't enough to turn me I tried。 I really, really did。 Probably longer than I should have。 But I just。。。 Couldn't。The long-winded prose was expected - this is a classic after all。 One expects a certain amount of unnecessary details and breaks in the story。 I could also forgive the ever-changing character or our protagonist, who switches from meek and malleable to fierce and self-assured。 Not my favorite, but I could overlook it。 The Big Dark Secret had already been spoiled for me, but even this wasn't enough to turn me away from the book。You know what was? Mr。 Freaking。 Rochester。The second this man entered the scene, I knew my reading experience was doomed。 I was already on the fence (see reasons above), but he was the proverbial straw for me。 And boy was he ever a baobab of a straw。 Every line he spoke, every action he took made me want to put my head through a wall。 Or his, rather。 I have never, ever hated a character as much as I hate him。 He is pompous, arrogant, judgemental and all around terrible。 The Big Dark Secret doesn't help。 He feels like Ms。 Brontë's attempt at a Mr。 Darcy 2。0。, only she forgot to give him any charm or redeeming quality。 Jane Austen didn't die for this。Now Jane Eyre is a popular book and if you love it, great! Don't let me deter you。 It just isn't for me。 I understand the appeal of this book。 I even understand its classic status。 I also understand that if I have to read one more word coming from that trashfire of a character, I will hurt someone。 To all the people reading this who are attracted to men, heed this warning : if he reminds your of Mr。 Rochester, he ain't the one。 。。。more

Infused with the intelligence of the heart and spirit, for me it spoke to a deeply feminine and mystical vision。 Whenever I picked it up time seemed to melt away。

I absolutely love this book!!

Barb Middleton

I enjoyed this much more than I expected。 The gothic elements are fun and there are twists and turns。 The main character questions societies norms and moves toward an independent woman。 She does portray the stereotyped mixed race woman that is mentally unstable。 I don’t want to spoil the plot so I’ll leave it at that。 If you’re looking for a romance then I recommend this one。

Craig Fishbane

Jane is simply one of the greatest characters ever created。

Caitlyn Stewart

I loved this book so much。 I was worried that I wouldn’t have enjoyed it due to it being a classic and being quite difficult to read but it is a must read and I would recommend this any-day! The gothic themes make the story pop more than I expected。

It's been years since I first read Jane Eyre, and all I can say is that I wanted to slap both Jane and Mr。 Rochester。 But Thandie Newton's narration is bloody spectacular and well worth the bumpy ride。 It's been years since I first read Jane Eyre, and all I can say is that I wanted to slap both Jane and Mr。 Rochester。 But Thandie Newton's narration is bloody spectacular and well worth the bumpy ride。 。。。more

Me encanto, me gusto mucho la historia, la cercanía que se mantiene hacia el lector y el poder de la protagonista。 Se me hizo un poco largo debido al vocabulario pero es de lectura rápida。
